The installation of the National Broadband Network has just started in Braidwood, and Bungendore is scheduled for commencement in October. The greater Queanbeyan area is scheduled for an April 2014 start.
The rollout happens in stages. Stage one, known as “detailed design” is generally done from Sydney taking around two months. After that field surveys are undertaken before the actual installation. This means that it will be 12-16 months before Braidwood and Bungendore residents can connect to the NBN.
The rollout of the NBN has been slowed by concerns about asbestos contamination in metro areas. At this stage it is not yet known whether there is a concern looming in Palerang or Queanbeyan.
