The NSW RFS has released this warning and some summer safety tips: It’s anticipated that we will continue to see severe storms throughout summer. The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted up to 110 storms will affect New South Wales in the coming months. See the SES website for tips on avoiding damage.
Staying connected — put this in your survival kit
Telstra has also sent around tips for managing your communication during storm and bushfire season. Tips for staying connected:
Fixed line phones. Consider using a standard fixed line phone that may be more likely to continue to operate in situations of power outage.
Mobile phones. Have a spare, fully charged battery on stand-by and carry additional mobile phone chargers. An in-car and a separate AC mains charger are essential in case of evacuation. Get the most rugged phone on the market.
Keep essential numbers close. These include local Police, Fire, SES and Telstra’s fault line – 13 22 03. Use Triple Zero (000) appropriately when life or property are threatened and not as an information line.
Back up your essential personal and business data and store away from the residence.
